WATCHES AND WARNINGS

The Tropical Storm warning is discontinued for the Florida Panhandle west of the Ochlockonee River.

SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT

A Tropical storm warning is in effect for:

* The west coast of Florida from Boca Grande to the Ochlockonee River

* Flagler Beach Florida to Cape Charles Light Virginia

* Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds

* Lower Chesapeake Bay south of New Point Comfort

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE

EXPECTED SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE WARNING AREA WITHIN 36 HOURS.

At 5:00 PM EDT the center of TS Andrea was located near 29.5 N / 83.4 W. Andrea is moving toward the northeast at 17 MPH and this motion is expected to continue with an increase in forward speed during the next 24 to 48 hours as Andrea moves along the forecast track.

Reports from Hurricane Hunter Aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds are near 65 MPH with higher gust. The storm should weaken after landfall and lose its tropical characteristics by Saturday as the system moves to the East Coast of the U.S.

Currently TS force winds extend up to 140 miles from the center.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

———————-

Storm Surge – The combination of a storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters. The water could reach the following heights above ground if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide:

TAMPA BAY NORTHWARD TO AUCILLA RIVER…2 TO 4 FT

FLORIDA WEST COAST SOUTH OF TAMPA BAY…1 TO 2 FT

FLAGLER BEACH NORTH TO CAPE CHARLES LIGHT…1 TO 2 FT

The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast near and to the south of the Florida landfall location. Surge related flooding depends on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle. Remember, flooding can vary greatly over a short distance.

Rainfall – Andrea is expected to produce large amounts of rain with accumulations of up to 6 inches in some areas

Wind – Tropical Storm conditions are occurring along portions of the West coast of the Florida peninsula. These conditions will gradually spread northeastward along the U.S. east coast during the next 24 to 36 hours.

Tornadoes – A few tornadoes are possible tonight over the Florida peninsula and in the coastal portions of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

NEXT ADVISORY:

NEXT INTERMEDIATE ADVISORY…800 PM EDT.

NEXT COMPLETE ADVISORY…1100 PM EDT.

For Complete Hurricane or Tropical Storm coverage please visit:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

What does this mean to us in Florida?

First all Disaster Relief Volunteers are encouraged to be prepared to respond in your communities. If a response is needed, self-activate your teams and please notify Your Unit Leader and / or Regional Coordinator.

Over the next 24 to 36 hours be mindful of the heavy rain and possible flooding. As Andrea passes continue to monitor your local weather for Alerts and Warnings. Tropical Storms can produce tornadoes, so please be prepared.

Andrea has begun to pull in dry air from the north and this should allow the rain in the central peninsula (Orlando and south) to begin to experience drier conditions, however the northern portions of Florida (Ocala and north) and Southern Georgia can still expect heavy rain to continue into tonight. This rain will continue as Andrea moves out to the East Coast of the U.S.

God Bless.

Oklahoma Update:

When Disasters Strikes the Southern Baptist unite to bring Help, Healing and Hope to the Survivors. Over the next several days, weeks and months Southern Baptist will be in the midst of the efforts to assist in the recovery following the tornado in Oklahoma. Sam Porter, the Disaster Relief Director for Oklahoma via Conference call relayed His thanks, “Thanks for all your prayers and support. We are overwhelmed with all the concern and the prayers.” Porter went on to say that most of the town is still locked down as rescue efforts are still underway, but that Southern Baptist feeding efforts are up and running. On the day following the tornado Oklahoma Mass Care Volunteers prepared 2400 meals, the meal count for yesterday was projected to be 6700 meals.

This Tornado followed a track that was only a half mile from the major tornado that struck in 1999. Southern Baptist worked for many weeks then and the plan is to respond in the same compassionate way now. Fritz Wilson, Exec Director for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief reminded the State Directors, “This is a marathon not a sprint” this response will last for weeks or months. But patience is needed. Team will begin to be called from near by states and the calls will expand if the need grows.

Eddie Blackmon from the North American Mission Board (Formally of the Florida Baptist Convention), is in Oklahoma providing assistance in coordinating the feeding response. Eddie, will be assisting Oklahoma State Director over the following days in what ever way is needed. Currently, Disaster Relief Directors are asked not to send cloths and other donations (stuff as Sam Porter calls it), the need now is for Prayers and trained Volunteers.

Florida has offered several teams for assistance but as of now we are not scheduled to respond.

Please Continue to pray for those survivors and the scores of Volunteers who are working now.

Thanks you and God Bless,

Your Florida Baptist Disaster Relief Team

ATTENTION

FLORIDA BAPTIST DISASTER

RELIEF:

As many of you know over the last several days the central part of our Nation has been struck repeatedly by disaster. Yesterday Oklahoma has devastated by Tornadoes causing severe damage and sadly the loose of many lives. Your Florida Baptist Disaster Relief Leadership has already contacted The Director of Disaster Relief in Oklahoma offering our assistance (physically and Financially), as well as the prayers of the Citizens of our great state. The Team of Southern Baptist Volunteers from Oklahoma and adjacent states are even now responding. Over the next several days as the needs develop we will keep you updated, as of now Oklahoma and the partner states adjacent to Oklahoma are working in response. As the need for labor grows we have offered to respond. So, what can we do now: Please pray for those impacted by this Disaster. Plan to give, you can give in several ways:

1. Pray, give your time to pray for those in need.

2. Give – Go to

Donate to Disaster Relief

and donate any amount. Use the form at the bottom of the page, being sure to designate your gift to Disaster Relief. We will assist Oklahoma with these gifts.

3. Go to

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief

and give directly to The Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief.

4. Prepare – We have not been called and our prayer is that the needs can be met by the Volunteers in Oklahoma and near by states, but if not we will go! So, lets be ready.

5. Help – If you cannot go, give so that your local team will be able to go. Traveling to Oklahoma or any disaster site has a cost. Please prayerfully consider how you can help a State team travel to and from sites during time of disaster.

6. Train – If you would like to become a trained Florida Baptist Disaster Volunteer, we have two training events remaining for this year.
Please use this link to see the remaining training events.

Training Event Flyer (PDF Format)

Thank you in advance as you help those in need. Yesterday it was Oklahoma and tomorrow is not known, lets us be ready as we respond to God’s call to bring the Help, Healing and Hope that comes through Jesus Christ in the form of a “Yellow Shirt”! God Bless you!
